| Adopt EACH of the following six
criteria:
- Adopt, post, and circulate a pollution prevention policy statement.
- Designate a coordinator or committee of staff and managers responsible for coordinating and maintaining efforts under this program.
- Conduct an assessment every 4 years of opportunities for pollution prevention at your facility.
- Provide incentive or training opportunities to encourage management and employee participation in Idaho GEMStars Program.
- Notify community, customers or clients about your environmental efforts by publicizing what your organization is doing to meet the Idaho GEMStars standards.
- Affirm that your business or organization is, to the best of your knowledge, in compliance with all applicable environmental regulatory requirements (or that you are currently fully meeting an approved compliance schedule or plan).
Adopt six (6) of the following 13 measures:
- Utilize at least 3 water conservation measures (or alternatively, for non-industrial wastewaters, 3 water purification measures) in your facility, organization or business.
- Incorporate at least 3 energy-conserving measures in your facility, organization or business.
- Have your local energy utility or an energy service company conduct an energy assessment of your facility.
- Monitor, record and post for employees water/utility usage, wastewater discharge, air emission and hazardous/solid waste generation rates.
- Adopt and post reduction goals for use of all toxic materials (e.g., Toxics Reductions List), or for amount of air emissions, wastewater
discharges or hazardous waste generated per unit of production.
- Reduce your use of toxics materials in at least 3 ways.
- Take measures to reduce environmental impacts of vehicles (which could include measures to reduce vehicle miles traveled by your employees or by residents/businesses in your community).
- Incorporate pollution prevention methods into materials and equipment purchases in at least 3 ways.
- Take measures to conserve office paper
- Adopt 3 measures to reduce generation of solid waste (other than office paper).
- Enhance your business, organization or facility maintenance program to improve equipment efficiency and reduce pollution in at least 3 ways.
- Adopt an inventory system to avoid leftover, expired or unused materials.
- Adopt additional pollution prevention measures appropriate to your business, community, facility or organization. (These might include measures to reduce noise, light or other forms of pollution, green architecture, land use planning, etc.)
